iFootage Cobra 3 Strike Review: The Must-have Monopod!
Today we're taking a look at the Cobra 3 Strike Monopod from iFootage.
Now this is an interesting monopod as it has some very unique features that really set it apart from it's competition.
Before we get into it, a brief disclaimer. iFootage did send me this to try out, however, no money has changed hands and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I should also mention that I'll be using the iFootage Komodo K5S Tripod head along with the monopod for some of this video.
The Cobra 3 Strike has clearly been designed with speed in mind.
One-Touch lifting
Perhaps the best feature of this particular monopod is the one-touch lifting system. To adjust the height, simply squeeze the handle and you can raise or lower the monopod to your desired height. The fact that you can do this with one hand is just perfect, you can tell this has been designed with speed in mind and it's certainly appreciated.
One of my favourite things about Cobra 3 Strike is the one-push quick lock and release system. To release the base or the head, you just need to pull down the lock and to attach them again, all you need to do is just push them down in place. It's as simple as that. This makes it incredibly quick to switch between using the full monopod, to just the base or even shooting handheld.
One-Foot Switching
The base of the Cobra 3 Strike has a really simple-to-use one-foot switching system. All you need to do is press down once to unlock the monopod, allowing you to easily move the poll around to get nice and smooth movements. With one click again, you can easily lock the pole back in place.
So the monopod can extend to a max height of about 150cm, this will obviously be slightly different depending on the tripod head or other attachment you are using.
You can attatch a gimbal
One thing I've really enjoyed doing with this monopod is attaching my gimbal to it. Using this in combination with the one-hand height adjustment and one-click release system makes it so quick and easy to get dynamic shots, especially in run and gun situations where you have to adapt quickly.
Detachable base
The detachable base is another great feature to have. You can use it as a stand-alone mini tripod which makes it ideal for getting super low-angle shots or placing in a small space or on a desk for example.
The legs on the base are 150mm which is wider than most other brands and this makes it much more stable. I feel confident enough to actually leave it standing on it's own. I will say though that you should be sensible if you are doing this, someone could still knock it with their feet for example.
Aluminium body
The body is made from aluminium and it feels very sturdy and well put together.
There is a handy feature that I wish more things had and that's the dual screw. This makes it easy to mount and use 1/4” and 3/8" . You may not even realise it's there at first, but you can just start screwing on your tripod head or gimbal for example and it will push down to fit.
Final Thoughts
Overall this is a fantastic Monopod and I can see myself using it a lot. Being able to use one hand to quickly adjust the height is a huge game changer. This along with the quick-release system makes the Cobra 3 Strike a really impressive piece of kit. I think I'll be using it a lot paired with my gimbal especially.
If you're someone who does a lot of run-and-gun shooting, where you have to quickly change position to get a range of shots in a short period of time, I'd definitely recommend checking out the Cobra 3 Strike.
I'll put a link on the screen and in the descriptions where you can find out where to get it.
